Immune-Stimulatory and Therapeutic Activity of Tinospora cordifolia: Double-Edged Sword against Salmonellosis

Treatment with AETC or METC inhibits the intracellular survival of S. typhimurium in macrophages. Macrophages were infected with S. typhimurium at a MOI = 5. After 4 hours of incubation, cells were washed to remove unphagocytosed bacteria. Cells were treated with various concentrations (100, 200, and 500 μg/ml). After 24 h of incubation, macrophages were lysed with 0.1% Tween-20 and bacteria were recovered after centrifugation. CFUs of S. typhimurium were determined by culturing on Luria agar media at 37°C for 24 hours. Results shown are representative of three independent experiments and presented here as mean ± SD. and as compared to untreated infected control.
