Immunohistochemical analysis of CD68 expression in IIPs. (a) CD68+ macrophages (Brown) were scattered in the alveolar space of normal control lungs. Numerous CD68+ macrophages were observed in the alveolar space in IIPs, including IFF/UIP (b), NSIP (c), and COP (d). In the interstitium, CD68+ macrophages were observed in NSIP and COP, but barely detectable within the intraluminal fibrosis in COP. Resorcin-fuchsin and hematoxylin were used as counterstains.
