Advances in Electrospun Nanofibers

Description

Electrospinning is one of the most popular, easy, and economical techniques to produce nanofibers of different properties and applications. The spun fibers from solutions or melt could be from various polymers, ceramics, and metals with size ranging from submicron to nanometer. The outstanding properties of nanofibers such as high aspect ratio, surface functionality, and superior physical and chemical properties make them suitable for many applications. Applications of nanofibers include composites reinforcement, filtration, tissue engineering, drug delivery, environmental remediation, sensing, smart materials, storage, and energy harvesting. Also by modifying the processing parameters to produce specialized composite fibres, patterned and 3D nanofibers expand the application further into nanoelectronics, nanofluidics, and catalysis.

The purpose of this special issue is to publish current state of research papers as well as review articles addressing recent advances on electrospun nanofibers processing and applications. We invite authors to submit original contributions and review articles in the field as well as emerging and future research directions.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Electrospinning process (melt, coaxiality, solution, and emulsion)
  • Composites nanofibers
  • Particulate filled nanofibers
  • Bionano fibers
  • Inorganic nanofibers
  • Patterned and 3D nanofibers
  • Structure-property relationship of nanofibers and composites
  • Properties and applications of nanofibers (antimicrobial, protective clothing, Biomedical, sensor, remediation, etc.)
