Functional Nanofibers: Production and Applications

Description

Nanofibers, mainly fabricated by electrospinning, are considered as one of the safest nanomaterials due to their extremely long length and their ability to be embedded within other media. Recent advancement in mass production of nanofiber has made it practical to use nanofibers in many emerging fields. In order to enhance the nanofiber capability to use in a particular application, functional nanofibers always serve as a better candidate. The prominent and potential applications of functional nanofibres are in filter media, biosensors, wound dressings, controlled drug release, tissue engineering scaffolds, smart protective clothing, energy, and environment and many other emerging fields.

This special issue is intended to present and discuss recent challenges and technological advancement in production of functional nanofibers and their application in various fields. Therefore, we solicit high-quality, original research articles as well as review articles focused within the subject.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Functional nanofibers for energy and environmental application
  • Functional nanofibers for wound healing and drug delivery application
  • Synthesis method for producing functional nanofibers by electrospinning, self-assembling techniques, and combined technologies
  • Functional nanofibers for sensing, actuation, and particle capture
  • Functional nanofibers for biomedical, scaffold, and biotechnological applications
  • Surface modification of nanofibers
  • Nanofiber functionalization via coating, click chemistry, doping, and absorption techniques
  • Ionic functional nanofibers and their synthesis technique and application
  • Characterization of functional nanofibers
  • Polymeric and organic/inorganic nanofiber and composite nanofibers for functional application
  • Functional nanofibers as filter media and water purification
  • Synthesis chemistry and production methodology for functional nanofibers
