Bioinspired Functional Materials
Description
Research by mimicking biological systems has shown more impact on many applications due to the well-designed micro-/nanostructures inspired from the biological surfaces or interfaces; thus, the materials may achieve the fascinating functionality.
In the special issue “Bioinspired Functional Materials” of this journal, authors should focus on the nanoscale or micro-/nanoscale structures similar to the biological features in multi-levels or hierarchy, and so on, which may be fabricated by developing novel technology or methods such as synthesis, self-assembly, and soft lithograph at micro- or nano-level or multi-levels. Authors may pay more attention to the multidisciplinary procedures of physical or chemical methods and nanotechnology to mimic the biological multi-scale micro-/nanostructures onto one-/two-dimensional surface materials. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Original researches in some aspects as fabrication technique, characterization, and potential mechanism
- Results of the intelligent materials with unique wetting or smart wettability, such as superhydrophobic, low-/high adhesive, fluid-controlling, liquid repellency and transport, responsive, catalytic, anti-icing properties and others
- Discussions that are focused on solid-liquid interfaces
This special issue is not limited to the topics above; the novel functional surface materials and as-fabricated technique and methods are welcome in this journal. The multidisciplinary methods on fabrications of bioinspired interfacial materials are also encouraged greatly. The aim is to provide an international platform for the most promising developments in the field regarding the bioinspired functions and potential applications.
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal’s Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jnm/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/jnm/biof/ according to the following timetable:
