Nanostructured Thin Films and Coatings
Call for Papers
Nanostructured thin films and coatings possess properties different to homogeneous materials due to the deliberate engineering of nanoscale features into the structure. Such films and coating have many applications across different technological areas as well as in basic science. Nanostructured films possess modified surfaces. Nanoscale structuring of surfaces of films can radically change the way in which the surface interacts with its surroundings with exciting applications in catalysis, sensing, and biological systems. Introducing nanoscale structure with a film can modify the functional and mechanical properties of the film material to enhance its application for a range of sensing applications from sensing physical to chemical phenomena. With more complex systems consisting of multiple film layers, complex coating can be engineered, which can perform multiple tasks, from sensing to protecting, in a single system.
This special issue of Journal of Nanomaterials will be based on an open call for new contributions in the field of nanostructured films and coating. It intends to cover the entire range of basic and applied materials research focusing on processing, characterization, properties, and modeling of nanostructured films and coatings for applications in catalysis, sensors, wear resistance, erosion protection, power generation, and other applications.
