Does Branched-Chain Amino Acids Supplementation Modulate Skeletal Muscle Remodeling through Inflammation Modulation? Possible Mechanisms of Action

Figure 1

Signaling pathways linking skeletal muscle inflammation and remodeling Possible role of BCAA action. Skeletal muscle inflammation can increase the expression and activity of factors such as TNF- 𝛼 B, ROS, IL-6, and NF- 𝜅 B which in turn could contribute to protein degradation and attenuate protein synthesis. On the other hand, BCAA supplementation could counteract such effects by suppressing skeletal muscle proteolysis and stimulation protein synthesis. BCAA: branched-chain amino acids; IL-6: interleukin 6: NF- 𝜅 B , nuclear factor kappa B: ROS: reactive oxygen species; TNF - 𝛼 : tumor necrosis alpha.
