Visible Discrimination of Broadband Infrared Light by Dye-Enhanced Upconversion in Lanthanide-Doped Nanocrystals

Contrast of the atomic absorption of lanthanide-doped nanoparticles with the molecular absorption of the dye-attached nanocomposite. The black curve is the optical absorption of a colloidal solution of NaY0.85Er0.15F4 (37 mg/mL in hexane), while the green curve is the optical absorption of 17 mg/mL solution of the nanoparticles after functionalization and reaction with DyL800 infrared dye.
