BRCA1 as a Therapeutic Target in Sporadic Epithelial Ovarian Cancer

HDAC inhibition induces DNA damage and disrupts DNA repair. Inhibiting HDAC causes hyperacetylation of DNA and chromatin remodeling leading to more relaxed and open DNA. This conformational change renders DNA more accessible to cytotoxic DNA-damaging agents causing both upregulation and downregulation of genes in the DNA damage and repair cascade.
