Ethanolic Neem (Azadirachta indica) Leaf Extract Prevents Growth of MCF-7 and HeLa Cells and Potentiates the Therapeutic Index of Cisplatin

ENLE induces apoptosis in MCF-7 and HeLa cells as analyzed by flow cytometry. Untreated MCF-7 and HeLa cells showed normal distribution of cells in various phases of cell cycle, whereas when treated with ENLE at their respective EC₅₀ doses, there was a significant increase in the number of cells in the sub-G₀ phase of the cell cycle with increasing time of treatment (48 and 72 h for MCF-7 and 24 and 48 h for HeLa cells). The histogram shows % analysis of cells in the different phases of the cell cycle from a representative experiment (out of three individual experiments).
