Extra Fructose in the Growth Medium Fuels Lipogenesis of Adipocytes

Fructose transiently induces genes involved in lipogenesis during adipocyte maturation. Expression of important lipogenic genes is shown in the presence (red squares) and in the absence of fructose (blue diamonds). 𝑦-axis: relative expression compared to expression of actin mRNA. FASN and GPAM are strongly induced between day ten and sixteen. The insulin-dependent glucose transporter GLUT4 follows the same course. No significant differences are seen for leptin expression. Each symbol depicts one qPCR measurement per dish in a representative experiment.
