Thyroid-Associated Ophthalmopathy

Call for Papers

Thyroid-associated ophthalmopathy (TAO), otherwise known as ophthalmic Graves' disease, appears to be due to a combination of autoimmune processes in the orbit, which may lead to disfiguring and/or sight-threatening disease. New information is being gained related to pathogenic mechanisms, clinical manifestations and subtypes, treatment modalities, and prognostic outcomes. We believe that further understanding of the clinical, as well as molecular, basis of this disease will lead to better and more specific treatment recommendations, as well as patient outcomes.

We therefore request submission of original research or review articles pertaining to the histopathogenesis of TAO, subtypes and classification models in TAO, treatment modalities, and outcomes, as well as population studies. We are especially interested in new immunosuppressive treatment, proliferative as well as inflammatory subtypes of Graves' disease, and further definition of prognostic indicators. Both clinical and immunopathologic papers will be strongly considered. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Description and Natural History of subtypes of ophthalmic Graves' disease
  • Clinical differences between pediatric and adult ophthalmic Graves' disease
  • Relationship of ophthalmic Graves' disease to systemic thyroid activity levels
  • Research related to immunopathogenesis
  • Relationship of cigarette exposure to pathogenesis
  • Role of B-cell suppressive agents in treatment regimens
  • Indications and outcomes of surgical treatment in subtypes of ophthalmic Graves' disease
  • Comparisons of decompressive surgical techniques

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jop/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/ according to the following timetable:
