The Aging Eye
Description
With the advances in medical science and increased average age of survival, there will be increased number of octogenarians worldwide. As a result, there will be immense burden of age-related eye diseases and complications. There is no proper definition for “normal” aging process. Every individual ages differently. The process of aging depends on their genetic makeup, lifestyle, environment, and pathogen exposure to name a few. Yet, we all resigned to the idea that aging our sensory systems including vision will fail us. However, with recent advances in medical science, loss of vision can be delayed and age-related complication and disease can be treated or reduced.
We like to invite basic science and clinical investigators to provide original research as well as review article which will provide a greater understanding on aging process in eye, an understanding on age-related eye diseases and their treatment, and an insight into the burden of age-related eye ailments and their management. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Biochemical and anatomical changes during the aging process of eye
- Age-related changes in lens and retina
- Age-related ocular disorders
- Ocular phonotype as a marker for other age-related disorders
- Treatment and management of age-related eye diseases
- Epidemiological surveys about the burden of age-related eye conditions
- Outcome of clinical trials
