Update on Uveitis Management

Description

The management of uveitis has always been a challenge both for infectious and noninfectious varieties. There are quite a few conventional treatment options available to choose from including corticosteroids, immunosuppressives, and immunomodulator therapeutic agents. The better understanding of the pathogenesis of uveitis in the recent times, based on the molecular diagnostics and cytokine profiles, has led to development of newer therapeutic agents including introduction of specific therapies for several infectious and malignant uveitic entities and targeted drug delivery. The development of interferons and newer biological agents including anti-TNF drugs has opened a whole new era in the management of autoimmune variety of uveitis.

The route of administration is important, and to avoid the side effects of systemic therapy, there is more and more emphasis on local therapy with introduction of several implants and targeted receptor therapy.

In this special issue, we plan to focus on these newer therapies in the background of old and time tested ones so as to help the reader understand the pros and cons of each and help one in choosing the most appropriate one. We invite papers including original research articles, reviews, and clinical studies to this special issue. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Immunosuppresive therapy in uveitis
  • Biologics in uveitis management
  • Local and targeted treatment in uveitis management
  • Specific therapy in uveitis
  • Cytokine profiles and future therapies
