Self-Crack-Healing of Ceramics
Call for Papers
Structural ceramics are superior in high temperature strength and are anticipated as leading materials for the next generation energy machine, such as the advanced gas turbine with high efficiency. However, the applications are limited because of its brittleness and low reliability. Moreover, machining cost is much high, thereby it is very difficult to fabricate a complex machine.
A new technology to overcome the above shortness is looking forward. As the candidate technology, self-crack-healing and toughening technologies can be listed up. Recently, great efforts were made in the technologies of self-crack-healing of ceramics. For example, great advances were made in the following field, such as self-crack-healing behavior under stress in low oxygen pressure environment, through life reliability guarantee technology using self-crack-healing, and new production technology to make nano-size SiC, Si3N4, etc powders.
At this time, this special issue which is concerned with “self-healing ceramics” will be published in the Journal of the Powder Technology. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- A new self-healing concept for structural ceramics
- Chemical and physical properties of powders for self-healing ceramics
- Sintered materials, such as SiC, Si3N4, and Al2O3
- The self-crack-healing mechanism
- Kinetics of self-crack-healing
- Mechanical properties of crack-healed materials
- A new materials design of self-healing ceramics
- The structural integrity of crack-healed materials
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/jpt/guidelines/.
