The enzymes involved in the transresveratrol biosynthesis are phenylalanine ammonia lyase (PAL), cinnamate-4-hydroxylase (CH4)—which can be substituted by the enzyme tyrosine ammonia lyase (TAL)—, 4coumarate-CoA ligase (4CL), and stilbene synthase (STS). STS and chalcone synthase (CHS) bond the same substrate and produce transresveratrol through a C2–C7 aldol condensation or chalcone through a C1–C6 claisen condensation, respectively.
