Anthrax Lethal Toxin Inhibits the Production of Proinflammatory Cytokines

Quantitative analysis of Th1/Th2 cytokines produced by human PBMCs using BD-Pharmingen CBA kit. Human PBMCs were treated with B. anthracis CW and anthrax toxin components, either individually or in combination, for 72 h at 37°C. Supernatants were harvested, stained with antibody-conjugated beads, and analyzed with FACS Calibur. The concentration of each cytokine was calculated with BD CBA software. Data were derived from 6 different donors. (a): IL-2, (b): IL-4, (c): IL-6, (d): IL-10, (e): TNF-α, and (f): IFN-γ.
