The Role of 18F-Fluorodeoxyglucose Positron Emission Tomography in the Prognostication, Diagnosis, and Management of Thyroid Carcinoma

18F-FDG-PET/CT of a 57-year-old woman with a 10-year history of widely invasive follicular thyroid carcinoma. Serum thyroglobulin was elevated to 121 ug/L (normal < 55 ug/L), but both diagnostic whole-body 131I scan and ultrasound were negative. The FDG-PET/CT revealed hypermetabolic FDG uptakes in the rib cage.
