Effect of NO donors in cultured beta cell proliferation. Rat islets were cultured for 48 h and treated with NO donors DETA-NO (a) and SNAP (b) at increasing concentrations, alone or in combination with zVADfmk (100 μM), a caspase inhibitor, and with the combination of proinflammatory cytokines IL-1β (50 U/mL) + IFN-γ (1000 U/mL) + TNF-α (1000 U/mL) (CTKS). Cultures were stained with BrdU over the course of the culture period.
