Celecoxib Improves Host Defense through Prostaglandin Inhibition during Histoplasma capsulatum Infection

Celecoxib reduces the fungal burden in the lungs and spleen of H. capsulatum-infected mice. The fungal burden in the lungs (a) and spleen (f). Tissue samples were harvested at 2, 14, or 28 days after the sublethal inoculation of H. capsulatum. At 14 (b, c) and 28 (d, e) days after infection, the lung sections from mice receiving daily water (b, d) or celecoxib treatment (c, e) were stained with Grocott’s methenamine silver (GMS) to detect yeast cells (black arrow shows the H. capsulatum yeast).
