Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells Express a Functional Receptor for Glucagon-Like Peptide-1 (GLP-1)

GLP-1 phosphorylates the intracellular signalling proteins PKB and ERK1/2. ARPE-19 cells were cultured in serum-free medium for 24 hours and stimulated with control medium (0′) or for 10, 20, and 40 minutes with 10 nmol/L GLP-1. Then, cells were then lysed and tested for phosphorylation and total protein of PKB (a) and ERK1/2 (b). Upper panel: representative western blot analysis of three different experiments is shown.
