HMGB1 stimulation influences PDL cell mineralization. HMGB1 exposure of hPDL cells for 21d resulted in enhanced biomineralization (a). In the absence of a respective substrate, no mineralized nodule formation was observed (A), whereas osteogenic medium (OM) itself (B) as well as OM supplemented with HMGB1 (C) led to the formation silver nitrate positive areas (arrows), which were most evident and spread in dexamethasone treated cultures (D).
