Aspirin Modulates Innate Inflammatory Response and Inhibits the Entry of Trypanosoma cruzi in Mouse Peritoneal Macrophages

Figure 3

Effects of ASA upon IL-1β and nitrite production in T. cruzi-infected macrophages. Macrophages were treated for 30 minutes with ASA (0.625 mM) and exposed to T. cruzi (Y strain). After treatment with ASA, cells interacted with 5 : 1 trypomastigotes for 2 hours, after which they are cultured at 37°C in 5% CO2 during 24 h. Afterwards, IL-1β (a) and nitrite (b) levels in supernatant were measured with a specific enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and by Griess reaction, respectively. Results are the mean ± standard error for duplicate determinations and are representative of four independent experiments. for a comparison with cell culture in medium alone.
