Effect of Negative Pressure Therapy on the Inflammatory Response of the Intestinal Microenvironment in a Porcine Septic Model

Figure 2

Lung function in septic swine. As a measure of MODS, lung function was determined by calculating the partial pressure of arterial oxygen divided by the fraction of inspired oxygen (/FiO2) at various intervals following the induction of septic injury. Lung function was severely compromised in the SOC group at 24 hrs following induction of septic injury as seen by a continual drop in /FiO2 from baseline (BL). However, NPT initiated at 12 hrs after injury not only appeared to reduce the severity of lung injury as seen by a delayed drop in /FiO2 but also resulted in significantly better lung function over approximately the last 20 hrs of the experimental period compared to the SOC group ().
