Alimentary Mucositis: Mediators, Mechanisms, and Emerging Therapies

Call for Papers

Alimentary mucositis (AM) is a major oncological problem, caused by the treatment of malignancies with chemotherapeutic agents and ionizing radiation. The entire alimentary tract can be affected by mucositis, with recipients of cancer therapies presenting symptoms such as pain, nausea, heartburn, ulceration, abdominal pain, bloating, vomiting, diarrhoea, and constipation. Despite the high incidence of alimentary mucositis following cancer therapy, the pathogenesis of this disorder remains poorly understood due to the complexity of both the organs involved and the associated signalling pathways.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the pathophysiology underlying alimentary mucositis and the development of therapeutic agents to treat or prevent this disorder. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • The development of animal models of alimentary mucositis
  • The role of inflammatory mediators in alimentary mucositis
  • Identifying biomarkers of inflammation in alimentary mucositis
  • Understanding the role of the microbiota in alimentary mucositis
  • Recent advances in anti-inflammatory targets and/or therapies for alimentary mucositis
  • Advances in understanding the signalling pathways of alimentary mucositis
  • Translation of animal model data into patient-based data
  • Noninvasive imaging techniques for inflammation detection in cancer patients
  • The role of pattern recognition receptors
  • The role of apoptotic, autophagic/necroptotic cell death modalities in the development of mucositis.

Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/mi/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/mi/alim/ according to the following timetable:
