Short Hospital Stay after Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery without Fast Track

Figure 1

Histogram showing the frequencies of days of postoperative hospital stay after laparoscopic versus conventional open colonic and rectal resections for colorectal malignancies for patients with a stoma and for patients with primary anastomosis. For patients with a stoma there was no significant difference in postoperative hospital stay between laparoscopic and open surgery (median 10 versus 10 days, ns). For patients with primary anastomosis the median postoperative hospitalisation was significantly shorter (4 versus 8 days, ) after laparoscopic repair.
