Information Management and Applications of Intelligent Transportation System

Description

The rise of economic growth and technology advance has led to demand the intelligent transportation system (ITS) for traffic service. How to construct real-time information systems of ITS is more and more important. Real-time traffic information, such as average vehicle speed, travel time, traffic flow, and traffic congestion, can be referenced by road users and the ministry of transportation to improve the level of service for road ways. Therefore, many existing research articles have been done to improve traffic information service.

Several approaches have been developed to collect and send real-time traffic information to traffic information centre via various networks (e.g., vehicular ad hoc network (VANET), universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS), and long-term evolution (LTE)): vehicle detector, global position system- (GPS-) based probe car reporting, cellular floating vehicle data (CFVD), etc. Furthermore, information and communications technology (ICT) can be used to analyse the real-time traffic information to forecast the future traffic condition for road user decision. This special section named “Information Management and Applications of Intelligent Transportation System” in Mathematical Problems in Engineering will solicit papers on various disciplines of traffic information management.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Intelligent transportation system (ITS)
  • Advanced traffic management system
  • Advanced traveler information system
  • Advanced vehicle control and safety systems
  • Advanced public transportation system
  • Commercial vehicle operations
  • Advanced rural transportation systems
  • Electronic payment services
  • Emergency management services
  • Vulnerable individual protection services

  • Cellular floating vehicle data
  • Vehicular ad hoc network
  • ITS user services
