Transportation Modeling and Management
Description
As a result of population growth and urbanization, almost all big cities over the world face serious problems of traffic congestion. Therefore, it becomes more and more important to model the operations of traffic networks and enhance the performance of transportation systems. At a strategic level, new models are needed to address infrastructural planning, environmental concerns, and safety aspects. At an operational level, new methods are required to improve the management, scheduling, and control of transport flows. Mathematical theories provide important instruments in modeling and managing transportation systems.
In this special issue, we invite original review and research articles that focus on the mathematical methods of modeling and managing transportation systems. The used methods can be mathematical programming, optimization theory, differential equations, game theory, and intelligent algorithms. Topics discussed in this special issue include, but are not limited to the following:
- Mathematical programming for traffic assignment and its application
- Optimization theory for network design and improvement
- Application of game theory in transportation management
- Application of differential equations in traffic flow modeling
- Calibration of mathematical models with real data
- Application of intelligent algorithm in transportation system
