Subsequently, the to be tested species was inoculated in close proximity. Diffusible produced by S. sanguinis (Ss) and S. gordonii (Sg) during growth caused inhibition of S. mutans (Sm), while no obvious growth inhibition was observed when S. sanguinis or S. gordonii was tested against themselves or against each other.
