Preconditioning and Acute Effects of Flavonoids in Protecting Cardiomyocytes from Oxidative Cell Death

Effects of short-(1 h) and long-(2 days) term pretreatment with catechin (Cat) in H9c2 cells subjected to ischemia-reperfusion. Cells were kept in DMEM with 2% FBS for 2 days and treated with either 10 or 50 μM catechin for either 1 h (short-term) or 2 days (long-term) before induction of ischemia and reperfusion. Catechin was also present during the reperfusion. Live cells were counted with a microscope after staining cells with acridine orange. Columns are means of 8 wells ± SEM. *Shows compared to the corresponding ischemia-reperfusion group (IR).
