The occurrence of acetic-acid-induced cell death in hxk2Δ cells is characterized by markers of both apoptosis and necrosis. Assessment of cell death by FITC-coupled annexin V and PI staining. W303-1A (black bars) and hxk2Δ (gray bars) exponentially growing cells were treated with different concentrations (40–80–120 mM) of acetic acid for 200 minutes at 30°C, before being processed for determination of phosphatidylserine externalization and membrane integrity by flow cytometry. 30000 events have been evaluated.
