Allicin Alleviates Dextran Sodium Sulfate- (DSS-) Induced Ulcerative Colitis in BALB/c Mice

Allicin suppressed the expression of proinflammatory cytokines in colon tissues from DSS-colitis mice. The mRNA expression levels of the inflammation-related cytokines (a) TNF-α, (b) IL-1β, (c) IL-6, and (d) IL-17A in colonic tissues were determined by real-time PCR. The values are expressed as the means ± S.D. In comparison of  control versus DSS,  DSS versus DSS + allicin. “” denotes a statistically significant difference at , and ns indicates not significant.
