ROS propagation among mitochondria and other ROS sources. Mitochondrial ROS production can cause collapse of mitochondrial membrane potential and increase in ROS generation. ROS produced in only small number of mitochondria can influence neighboring mitochondria and other cellular organelles, eventually propagating the ROS surge to the whole cell (modified from Venditti et al.
