Summary of results of animal studies on the role of galectin-3 in deranged glucose homeostasis and “metabolic” inflammation. Like HFD, galectin-3 ablation induces glucose metabolism dysregulation and metainflammation. Galectin-3 ablation and HFD have cumulative effects in inducing metabolic and inflammatory alterations.
