4HC-induced cell death affects oxygen consumption rate in NB cells. Mitochondrial oxygen consumption rate (OCR) of (a) SK-N-BE(2) and (b) IMR-32 cells treated with 50 μM 4HC or vehicle (MeOH) for 4 h, at various stages: initially, “basal respiration” cellular OCR; then, OCR after treatment with oligomycin, a complex V inhibitor (“ATP production”), then OCR after treatment with FCCP, a protonophore (“maximal respiratory capacity”), and finally, OCR after treatment with AMA (“spare capacity”.
