Interplay between Oxidative Stress and Metabolism in Signalling and Disease 2016

Description

It has long been recognized that energy metabolism is linked to the production of reactive species and critical enzymatic processes allied to metabolic pathways can be affected by redox reactions. For example, both protein and lipid oxidation are involved in the aging process as well as the onset and progression of many age-related diseases. As such, the capacity to identify specific targets and detect subsequent oxidative modifications is crucial for our understanding of the molecular basis of age-related diseases (i.e., diabetes, metabolic syndrome, or atherosclerosis) and for revealing novel treatment strategies.

We are inviting investigators in the area of oxidative stress, cell signaling, and metabolism to contribute to this special issue with original research articles as well as review articles. Our aim is to augment our understanding of the interplay between metabolism and oxidative stress in cell signaling and disease. Articles may address the molecular mechanisms involved in this processes as well as their role in human diseases and cell physiology. Reports on novel methodological approaches in both in vitro and in vivo models will also be considered.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Oxidative posttranslational modifications of mitochondrial proteins and lipids
  • Mitochondrial oxidants and antioxidants in cell signalling and dysfunction
  • mTOR signaling in aging and aging-related diseases
  • Sirtuins and oxidative stress
  • PDI and platelet function
  • Formation and detection of reactive species in metabolic disorders
