Medicinal Plants in Therapy: Antioxidant Activities

Description

Focus on natural products research has been increasing all over the world. Medicinal plants have always been a common source of medicaments either in the form of traditional preparations or as pure active principles. The lack of effective drugs against infectious diseases and the development of resistance of many hosts to chemical and synthetic drugs have caused a renewed interest in the study of medicinal plants as sources of new chemotherapeutic compounds with better activities and fewer side effects.

The use of traditional medicinal plants in most developing countries is the normative basis for the conservation of good health. An increased reliance on the use of medicinal plants in industrialized societies can be attributed to the extraction and development of a number of drugs and chemotherapeutics from plants as well as herbal remedies commonly used in rural areas. In addition, a clear understanding of precise mechanisms of actions of natural products would shed further light on the application of natural compounds on preclinical prevention and treatment of oxidative stress related diseases.

We invite authors to submit original research and review articles in our special issue in the following subarea of “Medicinal plants in therapy: Antioxidant activities”

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Antimicrobial, antiparasitic, and antiviral activities based on redox mechanisms
  • Application in medicine, healthcare, and healthy aging
  • Impact of dietary bioactive compounds during stress conditions
  • Molecular regulation of active compounds pathway in the medicinal plant: redox imbalance, gene expression, and signaling mechanisms during cellular injuries
  • Novel bioactive compounds with optimized biological activities
  • New antioxidants and their mechanism of action
