Nrf2 in Host Defense: Over the Rainbow

Call for Papers

Nuclear factor, erythroid derived 2, like 2 (Nfe2l2), or NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) is discovered as a ubiquitous transcriptional regulator of antioxidant and detoxification genes. During the last decade or more, Nrf2 has been widely investigated as oxidative stress is understood to be a common occurrence in various critical disease conditions. Broad spectrum of Nrf2 functions in host defense has been uncovered in diverse cells and multiple organs insulted by various oxidants, xenobiotics, pathogens, and carcinogens. Recent advances of biomedical technologies have further provided genetics and genomics underlying Nrf2 in laboratory animals as well as in clinical settings. Overall, it is implicated that Nrf2 subsidizes host defense through modulation of complex pathways including well-characterized antioxidant activation as well as cell cycle and death, metabolism, immunity, development, and carcinogenesis.

We invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the molecular, cellular, genetic, and physiological mechanisms of Nrf2. We are not only interested in articles describing Nrf2-assocaited molecular mechanisms and disease pathogenesis which is not fully understood experimentally or clinically but also will be interested in exploration of unknown aspects or unpredicted outcomes of excessive Nrf2 activation in model systems. In addition, novel insights from advanced approach using molecular genetics, epigenetics, genomics, proteomics, and computational modeling are highly acclaimed. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Novel upstream and downstream mechanisms of Nrf2 regulation and homeostasis
  • Role of Nrf2 pathway in model systems of various critical disorders
  • Nrf2 in developmental cells and organs
  • Nrf2 pathway in toxicogenesis and carcinogenesis
  • Epigenetics and genetics of Nrf2 in oxidative stress conditions
  • Nrf2 agonists and supplemental antioxidants as potential therapeutic interventions
  • Latest technologies to assess the Nrf2-directed events
