Activation of Nrf2-Regulated Glutathione Pathway Genes by Ischemic Preconditioning

In vitro preconditioning activates Gclc expression. neurons were exposed to the 1.5 h OGD preconditioning stimulus and the expression of Nrf2-target genes. Gclc and xCT were determined by qPCR. Expression of both xCT and Gclc was significantly upregulated by the preconditioning stimulus, highlighting a potential contribution of their gene products in the neuroprotection acquired by preconditioning (bars represent mean ± SEM, *𝑃<.05, unpaired 𝑡-test, 𝑛=3 for Gclc, 𝑛=5 for xCT).
