It is possible to use agents to restore NO availability, to limit ROS production and inflammation, to induce the protective HO-1 gene, to use Hb/heme scavengers to block Hb/heme adverse effects, or to chelate heme-derived prooxidant iron. In principle, combined therapies, by acting at different levels, could be even more effective.</table>
