Mechanisms in Protein Redox Regulation in Aging and Related Disorders
Call for Papers
It is now clear that the majority of the effects of ROS in aging cells are related to alterations in signaling pathways and redox regulation mechanisms rather through nonspecific damage of proteins. In fact, the molecular events which combine the control of protein-redox regulation mechanisms, with intracellular signaling pathways are still under extensive investigation. Since protein oxidation mechanisms and their markers in aging and aging-related disorders have already been treated extensively in various reviews and textbooks by the leading authors, we have chosen not to deal with the same treatment in this special issue, but rather with the altered protein redox-regulation mechanisms of key cellular proteins and impaired oxidized protein removal mechanisms in aging cells.
Therefore, we invite investigators to contribute original research articles as well as review articles that will stimulate the continuing efforts to understand the molecular pathology underlying age-related degenerations in redox-homeostasis of cellular proteins and the development of strategies to treat age-related disorders. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- The importance of intracellular redox homeostasis of proteins during aging
- Impaired redox homeostasis of proteins in neurodegenerative disorders
- Proteasome activity in aging and age-related disorders
- Cellular and animal models to test and understand oxidized protein degradation during aging
- Possible therapeutic approaches in age-related disorders which are accompanied with protein oxidation and impaired proteasome activity
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/oximed/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/oximed/mprr/ according to the following timetable:
| Manuscript Due | Friday, 1 March 2013 |
| First Round of Reviews | Friday, 24 May 2013 |
| Publication Date | Friday, 19 July 2013 |
