A Minireview of the Natures of Radiation-Induced Point Defects in Pure and Doped Silica Glasses and Their Visible/Near-IR Absorption Bands, with Emphasis on Self-Trapped Holes and How They Can Be Controlled

<table>Optical bands of STH<sub>2</sub> and STH<sub>1</sub> induced in a low-OH, low-Cl <i>bulk</i> fused silica by pulsed electron irradiation at 77 K. These bands were separated from a series of bands peaking at successively higher energies (not shown) by means dichroic red-light bleaching, and it was these dichroic bands (shown here) that correlated with the ESR spectra recorded for the very same samples. This figure is replotted from [<a href="/journals/physri/2013/379041/#B47">47</a>] using the original data and fitted curves kindly provided in digital form by Tanimura.</table>
