Negative consequences of dynamic hyperinflation

(i) Increased elastic and threshold loading on the inspiratory muscles
(ii) Increased work and O2 cost of breathing
(iii) Functional inspiratory muscle weakness and possible fatigue
(iv) Mechanical constraint on tidal volume expansion
(v) Early ventilatory limitation to exercise
