Oligometastases/Oligo-recurrence of Lung Cancer

Description

Lung cancer, primary or metastatic, has been a leading cause of death globally for many years. Metastatic or recurrent lung cancer has been considered to be a final stage, and systemic chemotherapy has long been considered to be the only treatment. Recent systemic chemotherapy is powerful; however, it is not enough to cure these patients. On the other hand, recent local therapy has been improving rapidly, and, then, patients who have only a few metastatic or recurrent lesions of the lung (usually, one to five) may be cured by special local treatment modalities using stereotactic radiotherapy (SBRT), proton therapy, heavy ion therapy, and radiofrequency ablative therapy, and video-assisted partial surgery and laser therapy for a few metastatic or recurrent lesions, usually in combination with systemic chemotherapy.

The main focus of this special issue will be to provide an overview of the new and exciting treatment techniques available for treating oligometastases and oligo-recurrence of lung cancer and detailed presentations of the mechanisms of oligometastases and oligo-recurrence of lung cancer in terms of modern biology. This special issue will serve as an international forum for researchers to better understand oligometastases and oligo-recurrence of lung cancer. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • SBRT for oligometastases/oligo-recurrence of lung cancer
  • Proton therapy for oligometastases/oligo-recurrence of lung cancer
  • Heavy ion therapy for oligometastases/oligo-recurrence of lung cancer
  • Radiofrequency ablative therapy for oligometastases/oligo-recurrence of lung cancer
  • Video-assisted partial surgery for oligometastases/oligo-recurrence of lung cancer
  • Other new techniques for oligometastases/oligo-recurrence of lung cancer
  • Exploring mechanisms of curing oligometastases/oligo-recurrence of lung cancer
  • Future strategies for management of oligometastases/oligo-recurrence of lung cancer
