Statins Activate Human PPAR𝛼 Promoter and Increase PPAR𝛼 mRNA Expression and Activation in HepG2 Cells

PPAR𝛼 promoter activity in HepG2 cells transfected with human PPAR𝛼 promoter-reporter plasmid after treatment with atorvastatin (Ator), cerivastatin (Ceri), fluvastatin (Flu), pitavastatin (Pita), pravastatin (Pra), rosuvastatin (Rosu), and simvastatin (Sim) for 24 hours. Each statin was used at doses of 1, 10, 25, and 50𝜇M. Nontreated cells (statin concentration 0𝜇M) were the control. The data are expressed as % of controls. Values are presented as the mean ± SEM of three separate experiments, significantly different from control at ^∗𝑃<.05, ^∗∗𝑃<.01.
