Basal end of a midgut epithelial cell at 48 hpi similar to that seen in Figure 12. There is a gap between the muscle (MC) at the top and the basal lamina (BL), which consists only of a thin layer along the outer edge of the midgut cell, and no laminar material can be seen within the midgut cell plasma membrane invaginations (arrows), which appear irregular compared with those in Figures 7 and 8.
