Clinical Application of Human Mesenchymal Stromal Cells for Bone Tissue Engineering
Figure 4
Two months postoperative results of the study by Mesimaki et al. Mesimaki et al. reconstructed a major maxillary defect in an adult patient using autologous adipose-derived MSCs (ASCs) combined with rhBMP-2 and β-TCP granules in a microvascular reconstruction surgery. Two months postoperative results indicate that (a) the rectus abdominis muscle has atrophied nearly totally and epithelialized almost completely. Only a small area in the molar region was nonepithelialized. A well-formed buccal sulcus is also noted. Axial (b) and 3D CT scans (c) show the shape and normal bone density of the new maxilla.
