Smart Material Based Intelligent System Design
Call for Papers
Over the last few decades, smart materials have been shown to have useful applications in numerous aerospace, mechanical, electromechanical, and structural subsystems. While the success of smart materials in mitigating small scale engineering challenges are many, nevertheless, system-level applications of these materials was initially restricted, primarily due to the limitations of power, energy, structural integrity, and connectivity. Recent multidirectional developments in material science, communication technology, robotics, and modeling of complex systems provide the possibility of developing intelligent systems based on smart materials. Such systems have been able to demonstrate “behavioral successes” by achieving the desired goals in various uncertain environments.
We are interested in articles that explore various aspects of system-level/broad-scale applications of smart materials resulting in the development of adaptive/dexterous/intelligent systems. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:
- Principles of intelligent system design
- Functional materials for intelligent system design
- Integration of smart materials in aerospace systems such as satellite, spacecraft, and UAV
- Design of intelligent automobiles and autonomous systems
- Design of smart sensor/actuator embedded intelligent devices
- Smart materials for civil engineering and construction technology applications
- Smart materials and their future applications and possibilities
- Wireless communication technology enabled intelligent systems
- Information fusion and multisensor health and condition monitoring systems
- Multiobjective computational design of smart compliant systems
Before submission authors should carefully read over the journal's Author Guidelines, which are located at http://www.hindawi.com/journals/smr/guidelines/. Prospective authors should submit an electronic copy of their complete manuscript through the journal Manuscript Tracking System at http://mts.hindawi.com/submit/journals/smr/smisd/ according to the following timetable:
