Raman Spectroscopy for Ceramic Materials

Call for Papers

Raman Spectroscopy is a high compositional and spatial resolution characterization technique, very useful and versatile in the materials science field.

In order to investigate the microstructure and/or structure of nano-micro materials with novel and/or useful optical, electric, and magnetic mechanical properties and catalytic properties, a number of techniques have been usually applied, among them, optical microscopy (OM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning force microscopy (AFM), and lately, scanning electron microscopy in the backscattered mode (SEM-BM).

In contrast to spectroscopy methods, the above- mentioned methods yield no or very limited chemical information. For materials with complex structure, the purely topographic information is not sufficient to understand their novel properties.

Different attempts have been made to combine the high spatial resolution of scanning probe microscopy with chemical information provided by spectroscopic techniques. So, methods based on Raman spectroscopy give the possibility to study at a local scale the structural deformations of these novel materials.

This special issue will become an international forum for researchers to summarize the information that Raman spectroscopy can provide to solve specific problems arisen in the study of functional materials.Potentail topics to be covered include, but are not limited to:

  • The design, synthesis, investigation, and application of electroceramic materials
  • Advanced spectroscopic characterization of lead free piezoceramics
  • Exploring the properties of nano-micro structured magnetic ceramics
  • Spectroscopic characterization of traditional ceramic with functional properties
  • New approaches in the characterization of composite materials
