Inflammation and Stroke

Call for Papers

Stroke is a leading cause of death and long-term disability worldwide. Development of an effective therapeutic strategy for stroke has been a priority of neuroscientists for decades. Unfortunately, to date, the results of hundreds of industry-sponsored clinical trials for the treatment of stroke by medication after it has occurred have been disappointing, with genetically engineered tissue plasminogen activators (tPAs) as the only agents approved by the FDA. Elucidation of novel cellular and molecular pathways that influence the pathogenesis of stroke could lead to development of new therapeutic approaches.

The aim of this special issue is to provide a comprehensive overview on the involvement of inflammation in acute stroke and development of new therapeutic approaches for the stroke. This special issue will cover a wide variety of emerging research and therapies for stroke. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Inflammation in acute ischemic stroke
  • Vascular damage and stroke
  • Inflammasome and ischemic brain injury
  • Oxidative stress associated inflammation in stroke
  • Translational stroke research
  • Anti-inflammatory strategies for stroke
